All food production has a footprint and leave some mark on the environment around them. Thankfully, thanks to continuous focus on improvement and innovation, Norwegian farmed salmon is one of the most sustainable animal protein sources around.
As the world’s leading salmon-farming nation, producing more than half of the world’s farmed salmon, we know what we are doing and take our responsibilities – to fish and food – seriously. We believe sustainability is not a destination you arrive at: It means constantly striving for better, solving challenges along the way and always looking for ways to improve.
Since the beginning of our modern aquaculture adventure over 50 years ago, Norwegian salmon farmers have been pushing boundaries and learning plenty of lessons along the way. Norwegian salmon farming is a continuously evolving industry, considered at the forefront of the technological evolution in modern food production. This means not just producing more salmon – but making sure we do it in the most responsible and sustainable way.
Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for pan-fried salmon fillet:
Ingredients:
- 2 salmon fillets
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1-2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1 lemon (optional, for garnish)
- Fresh herbs (like dill or parsley) for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Salmon:
- Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. This helps to get a nice crispy skin.
- Season both sides of the fillets generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Heat the Pan:
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the olive oil or butter. If using butter, let it melt completely and just start to turn golden.
- Cook the Salmon:
- Place the salmon fillets in the hot pan.
- Press down gently with a spatula to ensure the Salmon makes good contact with the pan.
- Cook without moving the fillets for about 4-5 minutes, and the fish is cooked about three-quarters of the way through.
- Flip the fillets carefully and cook for an additional 2-4 minutes on the other side, depending on your preferred doneness. The flesh should be opaque and easily flake with a fork.
- Finish and Serve:
- Remove the salmon from the pan and let it rest for a minute or two.
- Serve the fillets with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Tips:
- If you like a more robust flavor, you can add minced garlic, capers, or a splash of white wine to the pan during the last minute of cooking.
- Pair the salmon with a side of roasted vegetables, a fresh salad, or some buttery mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
Enjoy your perfectly pan-fried salmon!
